When Firms Step Up: Venable LLP’s Pro Bono Work Helps Deliver Justice for Clients
Legal Services is grateful for the dedicated law firms that partner with us to expand access to justice. Recently, Venable LLP demonstrated exceptional commitment by hosting our Small Claims Clinic and continuing their support through extended pro bono representation.
At the initiative of partners Allison Day and Mariaelena Gayo‑Guitian, Venable hosted the clinic where attorneys Allison, Mariaelena, Avi Zemel, and Leonela (Leo) Vaccaro Padrón assisted clients in preparing small claims to file pro se. Their hands‑on guidance helped clients understand their rights, complete court forms, and take meaningful steps toward resolution.
One client, Rosario*, came to the clinic seeking help to recover her security deposit. Leo worked closely with her—conducting the intake in Spanish and preparing her claim—empowering her to represent herself.
When Rosario later encountered challenges navigating the court process on her own, Venable again stepped up. Associate Monica Diaz volunteered to provide extended pro bono representation, attending mediation and ensuring Rosario understood each step. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Leo and Monica, Rosario reached a successful settlement of $1,800, the full amount of her deposit.
“We are committed to supporting our community and the important work of Legal Services of Greater Miami,” said partner Allison Day. Partner Leo Vaccaro Padrón added, “It’s an honor to work alongside colleagues who lead with purpose, and to help clients like Rosario achieve a fair result.”
Their dedication helped secure a fair result for Rosario and demonstrates the meaningful impact that firm‑wide pro bono participation can have on our clients and community.
