The Seventh Annual Legal Eagle Closing Argument Competition was held on Saturday, June 23 at Florida International University College of Law. The Competition is an annual event coordinated by the Legal Services Young Professionals Committee, and was chaired by Kristen Corpion.
More than 30 attorneys from both private and government practice argued before a panel of private practitioners and sitting judges. The winner was Victoria San Pedro Madani, an associate in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen, who took home the Best Closer Traveling Trophy and a $1,000 cash prize. Runner up was Kioceaia Stenson from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
The one day single-elimination competition is open to attorneys in Miami-Dade County who have been practicing for 7 years or less, and consists of several rounds of arguing both the plaintiff’s and the defendant’s positions. The Competition provides young attorneys with a platform to give back to the community, develop oral advocacy skills, network with young professionals, and learn from local practicing attorneys and judges. Proceeds from the competition benefit the Ervin Gonzalez Law Clerk Fellowship at Legal Services of Greater Miami.
Thank you to the many judges, volunteers and sponsors who helped to make this event possible!
