Legal Services Protects Those Who Have Served and Sacrificed

After serving in the Vietnam War, Riley developed cancer after exposure to Agent Orange and was also suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  After surgery for cancer, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reduced his disability rating from 100% to 60% because he no longer had active cancer.  Despite his continued struggles with PTSD, which left unable to work, the VA reduced his monthly benefits.

Legal Services filed an appeal arguing Riley’s PTSD was total and permanently disabling.  The Hearing Officer agreed and approved Riley for Individual Unemployability Benefits, maintaining his monthly benefits at the same level.  His wife is now also eligible for healthcare and tuition assistance from the VA.

Riley, who served his country in time of war, now receives the VA benefits that he and his family deserve.
